Energy Crisis Creates Planned Blackouts

Bolivia-Weekly, 12-August-2011: Bolivia, a country which exports natural gas and oil to its neighbors, has begun blackouts in its three largest cities by order of the National Distribution Committee (CNDC) due to a lack of enough electricity to meet demand.
Santa Cruz Roadblocks Aimed at Gov. Minister

Bolivia-Weekly, 12-August-2011: The Santa Cruz Federation of Peasant Workers announced that starting today it would block roads in the Santa Cruz department in order to demand the resignation of the minister of rural development and agriculture, Nemesia Achacollo, whom they accused of betraying the peasant movement.
Bolivia: Election Court, OAS Sign Observation Agreement

Amazonian Superhighway Continues Despite Tribal Opposition

Bolivia-Weekly, 15-August-2011: Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera said that dialogue was open with indigenous groups opposing the planned superhighway through Amazonian Isiboro Sécure national park, however these same groups are threatening a march and road blocks because the dialogue has broken down. Eleven indigenous leaders from Amazonian tribes such as the Tipnis and Chimanes said that they continue to oppose this massive road through "their house," the national park.
Bolivian Gov´t Wants Talks with Indigenous Group

Prensa Latina, 15-August-2011: The government is insisting on talks with representatives of the Isiboro Secure National Park and Indigenous Territory(TIPNIS), who announced a march on Monday opposing the construction of a highway. Organizers say a section of the future highway between the departments of Beni and Cochabamba would cause damage to habitat.
