Bolivia to get fixed wireless network

Global Telecoms Business, December 16, 2010 -- Co-operativa de Telefonos Automaticos La Paz is planning to install a fixed wireless network in Bolivia next year. 
The new infrastructure will allow Cotel to offer voice and internet services in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto, through around 40 base stations. Around 80% of the new network will be used to provide telecoms services in the city in the first phase. 
The new network is expected to be launched in the second half of 2011 and will be extended to the provinces in the second phase. Cotel currently provides fixed telephony as well as internet and pay-TV services. It recently also rolled-out its triple play services in La Paz.

Cossio declared a "rebel"

Los Tiempos, Cochabamba, December 28, 2010 – It has been four days since news came out of the suspended governor, Mario Cossio, fleeing Tarija; he managed to evade the border and is in Paraguay, where he earned a "temporary refuge" for 90 days.  Yesterday, the Tarija court declared Cossio a "rebel."

Garcia and ministers present bad news to not affect Morales' image

El Diario, La Paz, December 28, 2010 -- Analysts said the central government aims to safeguard the image of the state president, Evo Morales, because fo the recent impact caused by the "gasolinazo" imposed on Sunday. This has been done by Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera along with the full cabinet, by issuing the Supreme Decree 748 which raises the price of petrol and diesel.  This strategy is an example of the executive avoiding responsibility of the said decree in front of the population's reaction.
