Bolivian Gov't Delivers on National Development Projects

Lawyer to Accused Narcos Shot Outside S.C. Justice Palace

Bolivia Weekly, 20-July-2011: Attorney Denver Pedraza, who frequently defends people of accused of drug cases, was wounded by gunfire yesterday afternoon on the steps of the palace of justice in central Santa Cruz. A gunman fired seven shots at him, two of which hit the lawyer, who is now being treated for his injuries. After the attack, the police mobilized and arrested two suspects, one of whom is reported to be a Colombian national.
ALBA Culture Ministers Meet in Bolivia

Prensa Latina, 20-July-2011: The fourth meeting of Culture Ministers of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) begins Wednesday, focused on assessing advances and challenges, an official source informed. The meeting will look at how the ALBA bloc can improve its work in the area of culture, the event's public relations officer, Silvana Saavedra, told Prensa Latina.

Report: Bolivia Poorest of LatAm Countries

Bolivia-Weekly, 21-July-2011: Yesterday in Mexico City, the Ethos Foundation presented its poverty index, which showed that Bolivia is the poorest of the eight Latin American countries that were analyzed en the last three years. Ecuador and Venezuela follow Bolivia on the list. Chile, on the other hand, is at the other extreme.

Inter-American Development Bank Head to Visit Bolivia

Bolivia-Weekly, 26-July-2011: The president of the Inter-American Development Bank, Luis Alberto Moreno, will visit Bolivia for two days starting tomorrow. In addition to promoting his new book, The Latin American Decade: A Real Opportunity, Moreno will meet with Bolivian President Evo Morales to discuss a cooperation agreement, among other subjects, such as a credit line for the implementation of drainage systems in La Paz and El Alto and guidance for the National Institute of Statistics in order to implement household surveys.
Alleged Brazilian Hitman Arrested; Possible Links to S.C. Kill Attempt

Bolivia-Weekly, 26-July-2011: In operations carried out yesterday morning, Bolivian police arrested a Brazilian, Marco André Magalhaes Oliveira, a.k.a. "The Bug," an alleged member of the Commando M-16 Brazilian drug gang. Magalhaes is accused of murdering four people in the Santa Cruz and Pando departments of Bolivia in apparent revenge attacks and to settle scores related to drug trafficking.
Bolivian Women Begin Social Summit in Cochabamba

IDB Head Meets With Evo, Extends More Credit

Bolivia-Weekly, 27-July-2011: The president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Luis Alberto Moreno, recognized yesterday the strength of the Bolivian economy, and signaled that it was one of the few countries that resisted the 2009 international financial crisis with positive growth. Subsequently, Moreno approved a new line of credit for Bolivia to the tune of US$256 million.
Possible Evo-Piñera Meet in Peru; Prez Off to NYC to Visit UN

Bolivia-Weekly, 27-July-2011: David Choquehaunca, the foreign minister of Bolivia, announced yesterday that the presidents of Bolivia and Chile, Evo Morales and Sebastián Piñera, could meet in Lima this Thursday, when they are both due to attend the Peruvian presidential inauguration ceremonies of Ollanta Humala. Morales and Piñera have been embroiled in a dispute over maritime access that Bolivia lost to Chile at the conclusion of the 19th-century War of the Pacific.
IADB President Visits Bolivia

Prensa Latina, 27-July-2011: Inter American Development Bank president Luis Alberto Moreno started a two-day official visit to Bolivia to analyze cooperation agreements, said an institutional bulletin here Monday. During his visit Moreno will fulfil a tight agenda, including a meeting with Bolivian President Evo Morales. Moreno will also meet other Bolivian authorities, and his program includes the signing of a credit for 30 million dollars for the implementation of drainage projects in the cities of La Paz and El Alto.
